CAPs and the AG Race
The AG race is far from over, folks, so let's not go declaring victory or conceding defeat just yet.
I just checked out some numbers. Many localities in Virginia have adopted what are called CAPs for reporting absentee ballots. CAP stands for Central Absentee Precinct. Essentially, the localities that have CAPs are able to report their absentee ballots as if they are another precinct on election night.
However, many localities haven't instituted CAPs and therefore have not yet reported their absentee ballots. They are as follows:
Alleghany County
Amelia County
Appomattox County
Bath County
Bland County
Brunswick County
Buckingham County
Buena Vista City
Caroline County
Charles City County
Covington City
Craig County
Cumberland County
Dinwiddie County
Emporia City
Essex County
Floyd County
Franklin City
Grayson County
Greene County
Greensville County
Highland County
King George County
King William County
King and Queen County
Louisa County
Lunenburg County
Madison County
Mecklenburg County
Middlesex County
Northhampton County
Northumberland County
Norton City
Nottoway County
Orange County
Petersburg City
Poquoson City
Prince Edward County
Rappahannock County
Richmond County
Rockbridge County
Southhampton County
Surry County
Sussex County
Warren County
In these localities, without regard to population, Sen. Deeds leads Bob McDonnell 50.96 % to 49.04%.
If one takes into account the fact that the largest of these localities is Peterburg (78.39% for Sen. Deeds) as well as the fact that absentee ballots tend to be slightly more Dem leaning than the rest of the electorate, Senator Deeds is VERY MUCH in the race for Attorney General.
Who knows when we'll actually know for sure.

Ben, are you aware or not whether any of these localities have already reported any/all absentees?
I thought most of these localities put those absentees in the ballot box(es) for election day at that polling place? Has the method changed?
From what I can gather, these haven't been counted as of yet.
I could be wrong.
Interesting... I didn't know that some localities had not adopted the CAP system yet. I had thought it was pretty much statewide. If some of these hadn't been counted, it would be interesting, especially with Petersburg, Buena Vista, Covington and some counties that went decidedly Deeds' way.
Although, they probably would have said something during the "I'm not dead yet" press conference today if that were the case.
SBE updated again, 980 vote spread b/t Deeds and McDonnell. Getting close to the area where a recount could swing it.
